According to a recent study by the Brookings Institute, more than 38 million Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Almost 70% of those on the edge of bankruptcy aren’t “poor” – they’re “middle class” by most standards. What?! How?! What happened?!
Debt and other personal finance issues plague our society. Most of us have been taught how to handle money by advertisers and banks, who have convinced us that as long as we can afford the minimum payments, we can afford anything we want. That is pure garbage, a flat out lie.
My family is living proof that it is possible to live debt free on a normal, middle-class income. We don’t live in a shanty or drive rust-bucket cars. We have just set priorities with our money and followed simple, common-sense principles. As a result of all I learned in school, plus my time as a debt collector and my own life experiences, I began doing financial coaching and eventually wrote a book, From Debtor to Better: The Details of Debt and How to Get Out! It has been very well received and I would recommend it as a resource (of course I would, I wrote it!).
As another tool that can help you get out of debt, I’m excited to announce the release of my new video-based course, Five Simple Steps (and all the tools you need) to Overcome Debt. This course covers a lot of the same material as in my book, but is more focused on the application of five simple steps anyone can use to quickly, safely and reasonably overcome virtually any amount of debt (hence the course name). If you need help with your debt, I ask you to consider grabbing a copy of my book, checking out this course or contacting me for coaching. I’ve been down the road of everything from simple credit card debt all the way to bankruptcy and foreclosure. I’ve helped hundreds sort through their own financial mess – can I help you?
What’s in the Course?
The course is made up of several short videos (me talking with visuals on the screen), plus several resources at the end to give you the tools to get a handle on your debt. When you’re finished with Five Simple Steps (and all the tools you need) to Overcome Debt, you’ll be able to:
- Analyze your financial situation to identify strengths and weaknesses
- Develop a working cash flow plan (budget) for your household
- Organize your finances to minimize errors and the time required to deal with ongoing expenses
- Prioritize your finances to maximize income and minimize expenses
- Develop a strategy to cope with financial emergencies
- Deal with collectors (if applicable) to reduce the time and expense involved in getting back on track with your debts
- Use the five simple steps to implement a plan to get out of debt and/or live debt free
I hesitantly claim this course is for just about everyone. Why do I hesitate? Well…the math never gets harder than 3rd or 4th grade level, so most of you should be okay there. The bigger challenge, however, is your willingness to challenge the idea of “the way you’ve always done it” with your finances. If you’re not willing to change, I can’t help you change. However, if you’re ready to change, give Five Simple Steps (and all the tools you need) to Overcome Debt a try. Visit the link and you’ll find you can take a few lessons without having to pay anything. Try those free lessons and decide for yourself if the course is worth your investment.
What are you waiting for? Why are you still reading this? Go try out the course…or at least the free lessons!
